Wednesday 28 April - Literacy - In literacy, you have been alloacted a character in a role play scenario.  Today we have vbeen looking at whether they would support or oppose a new housing development on Welland Orchard.  "In role", write a letter to the local paper arguing your support or opposition to this project.  Tips on how to write such a letter can be found on the Literacy pageDue in Friday.

Monday 19 April - Literacy - this week we are looking at poems with a social message. Think about an issue you feel strongly about (global warming, animal rights, homelessness, racism, etc.) that you would like to write a poem about on Friday.  Surf the net to find an existing poem about this issue that you can bring to class on Wednesday and present to a small group. If you can't find a poem, an article or picture will suffice, so long as you can discuss your feelingsd about it - bring to Wednesday's lesson

Tuesday 23 February - Literacy - This week you will be writing a non-chronological report on one aspect of a healthy lifestyle.  Your task is to find material from sources such as books and the internet and bring it into class tomorrow.  You do not need to take notes for homework. 

Wednesday 10 February - Literacy/Art -  Draw a picture, map or diagram for your non-chronological report that we're writing in Literacy this week.  Due in Thursday

Tuesday 9 February - Maths - "Probability" activity sheet - Due in Thursday

Monday 8 February - Literacy - Today you chose a subject to write your non-chronological report on.  Your job is to find a book, or to print out information from the web, about your subject.  Don't take notes, we're doing that tomorrow in Literacy!

Week commencing 1 February - Mock SATs - no homework!  But make sure you've set up your "A lot of rot" experiment.

Friday 29 January (homework for next two Fridays) - Science - If possible, set up "A lot of rot" experiment this weekend, following instructions on sheet handed out.  Make and record at least three observations during the next three weeks.  If possible, take photos to show the results of your investigation!  Due in 22 February

Wednesday 27 January - Literacy/Art -  Design a CD cover for the album you reviewed in literacy yesterday (recorded by the imaginary  popstar that you have created and are writng about this week).  If possible use a real CD cover as a template and see what your artwork looks like in a CD case!  No copying and pasting pictures from the web!! Due in Friday

Monday 11 January - Literacy.  Complete the poem you planned during literacy today, and present it neatly (written or word processed).  Remember to include the features of poetry that we discussed in class (similes, metaphors, alliteration, personification, repetition, adjectives, adverbs, etc.).  Due in Wednesday

Wednesday 6 January - RE - research and write an information sheet about a Christian based charity (for example, Christian Aid, Tearfund, CAFOD, Mechanics for Africa).  You might want to answer some of the following questions:  When was the charity set up?  Who set it up? Why?  Who does the charity help? How? What big projects is the charity involved in? You may word process your work. Due in Friday

Tuesday 5 January- Maths - fractions/percentages activity sheet and division revision.  Due in Thursday    

Monday 4 January - Fun spellings - write a sentence for each of the words from The Jabberwocky in your homework book.  Use your imagination to give these made-up words a meaning!  Five sentences (or more) should contain connectives.   Spelling test on Friday (but just for fun, don't spend time learning them!)  Sentences with spelling words in, due in Friday

Friday 11 December - Last homework of the term!  Literacy - Write a paragraph (6 - 8 sentences) starting with the words: "I am looking forward to Christmas because........".  Use a good range of description (adjectives, adverbs, similes, personification, etc.) and use a variety of sentences (simple, compound and complex).  Due in Monday

Friday 27 November - Science -  Find five different materials at home that reflect light well. Comment on which items rely on their reflective qualities to do their job? Due in Monday

Thursday 26 November - Reading - Read for 30 minutes (if possible, some of this time to an adult) and make an entry in your reading record. 

Wednesday 25 November - Literacy -  Create a play script of an every day morning scene at school. The scene needs to start from lining up outside and finish with us going to assembly!  Limit your characters to around five (don't include everyone being registered one by one!).  Play scripts must be hand written and should include the features that we have been looking at this week (for example, cast list, stage directions, colons after the name of character about to talk, etc.)  Due in Friday

Monday 16 November - Literacy - Research the first 2-3 years of your life to help you write an autobiograophy in class, later in the week.  To do this you could: Find out any other significant events that happened in the year you were born. Ask your parents questions about your early childhood.  Examples include: where was I born? how long was the labour? what did I look like as a baby? what was I like as a baby? how old was I when I first started walking / talking? what was I like as a toddler? how did my appearance change? are there any funny stories about me at this point of my life? did I go to nursery? how much did I enjoy it? what were my favourite toys?  Due in Wednesday

Friday 13 November - Write up in best, or word process, your biography that you have been preparing.  You can include pictures!  Due in Monday

Wednesday 11 / Thursday 12 November - Literacy  - Plan a biography of a famous person that you admire, a friend or a member of your family.  Think about separating it into a number of sections/paragraphs (for example, childhood, development of career, peak of career, interests and hobbies, family and friends).  Ensure you use the features of biography that we have been looking at: chronological order, usually written in the past tense, prominent events in life,  how the person you are writing about feels at certain times, etc.

Tuesday 10 November - Maths - problem solving questions.  Complete as many as you can in 40 minutes.  You can use a calculator but please show your working.  Due in Thursday  

Monday 9 November - Spellings - learn to spell, and write a sentence in your homework book for, each of this week's words.  Please include a different connective in each sentence; these should be underlined.  Spelling test on Friday.  Sentences with spelling words in, due in by Friday   

Friday 6 November - Science - During the weekend, explore your home and list as many light sources as you can find.  Also identify three objects that are transparent, three that are translucent and three that are opaque.  Present this information with illustrations. Due in Monday

Thursday 5 November - History.  During the Second World War, the government encouraged people to Dig for Victory and grow their own vegetables. Design your own Dig For Victory poster. Due in Monday

Wednesday 4 November - Literacy.  Imagine that you are a Jew living in a country occupied by the Nazis during the  Second World War.  You are in hiding in a secret room to escape being sent to a work camp.  Write a paragrapgh to describe the room: what you can see, hear, smell and taste there.  How are you feeling? Thursday 15 October - Literacy - Imagine you are David (from Friend or Foe) waiting at the station for the train.  Write a paragraph describing what you can see, hear, touch, smell and taste (remember your similes, personification, etc.).  Also describe how you're feeling at this moment.  You may start your paragraph with the following: I arrive at the station, heart pounding and hands shaking...  By the end of the paragraph you should have not moved on in the story further than boarding the train. b. a diary entry by one of the Jarrow marchers explaining what life was like for him and why he decided to join the march. Due in Monday

Wednesday 23 September - Literacy - imagine you are living in London and you have just heard the air raid siren go off.  You don't have enough time to get to an air raid shelter before the bombs start to fall, so you hide under the dining room table.  Write a paragraph (around six sentences) to describe what you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.  Try to use features such as similes and personifcation to describe your feelings.  Due in Friday

 Friday 18 September - Science - represent the data you recorded from this afternoon's sugar dissolving experiment in a table, and then in a bar chart.  Finally, write a short conclusion using these reults (about two sentences). 

Thursday 17 September - Topic - Complete your twentieth century time line by entering five personal dates (for example, year of birth of your mum, year parents were married, etc.).  Ensure your timeline looks interesting buy using colour or drawing/sticking pictures in.  If you still need to enter any of the dates from class, you can find them on the topic page.

Wednesday 16 September - Literacy/Topic - write a brief review of the play "Carrie's War".  You may want to think about the following questions when writing your review:  what was the play about?  when was it set? (remember, there are two different times), what did you enjoy particularly about the play?  which character did you most identify with?  why? was there anything that could have made the performance any better? - due in Friday  If you email your review to me at mr.nunn@hotmail.co.uk I will put it on the website!
